How to create a clutter-free home
Have you ever visited a friend’s house and left in awe of their clutter-free home, or have you looked through a magazine at the beautiful and clutter-free spaces and thought: “I could never create a home like that?” Well, don’t worry – you CAN create a home like that and the process does not necessarily need to be too incredibly time-consuming, stressful, or expensive. All you truly need is a little bit of time, a good attitude, and commitment to your project. Let’s talk about how to create a clutter-free home:
Start with a home walk-through
To begin your decluttering process, you should start with a home walk-through to figure out what needs to be decluttered, what is in pretty good shape, and what other tasks you need to do, in order to start decluttering. When you do this, you will want to create a checklist of everything that you need to do. Go room by room and create your list: is there a lot to get rid of? Does the room need to be deep cleaned? What items do you need to get in order for the room to become more organized? Write down anything else that you need, in order to stay on track, keep the process organized, and streamline everything. Writing everything down and going through your first home before you begin removing clutter and organizing is the best way to stay on track and organized.
Start with the spaces you do not see often
Start with the spaces that you do not see very often. Do you know why I recommend this? Well, it’s because in the spaces that you are frequently in, more than likely, the clutter will stare back at you every single day, and you will want to do something about it. When it comes to the rooms that you rarely go into, you can tuck things away and not think twice about them. Out of sight, out of mind, right? To keep this from happening, start with the less frequently visited rooms. Knock those out first and then you will have more motivation to clean up the rooms that you are always in, such as your bedroom, bathroom, living room, your kitchen, and your garage.
Get rid of things you do not need anymore
While you are creating your clutter-free home, you will definitely want to get rid of items. Box things up and move them into storage, gift them to a friend, donate them, or take them to the dump. If you need help moving things, especially if you have large pieces to move around or get rid of, get help. These Salt Lake City gun-safe movers can do it all. Give yourself an incentive
If you give yourself an incentive to declutter your home, chances are that you will stick to your plan much better than if you do not give yourself an incentive! This incentive could be getting new furniture, eating a treat that you normally wouldn’t have, or going on a fancy trip. Whatever you need to keep yourself motivated, do it (as long as it’s healthy!).
Do not rush
And my best tip of all: do not rush! If you try to rush, you might overwhelm yourself. Set a steady pace for the project and do not worry about how long it takes you. At the end of the day, you will get it done and you will be so glad that you did this!
